The 2015 murder of a young and beautiful American woman by an illegal immigrant with a record of numerous catch and releases by authorities was a nightmarish crime only made worse by the ‘not guilty’ ruling by a San Francisco court.
On November 30, Breitbart reported:
“A jury found Jose Garcia Zarate ‘not guilty’ on charges for the 2015 killing of [Kate] Steinle. Zarate, previously using the alias Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, was found guilty on a charge of possessing a firearm. He previously admitted to killing Steinle and traveling to San Francisco for its sanctuary status. The young woman was walking on San Francisco’s Pier 14 with her father when she was shot in the back and killed. Her last words were pleas to her father for help as she died in his arms. Zarate had been convicted of seven felonies and deported five times at the time of Steinle’s death.”
The ruling shocked a majority of the nation and left the President and ICE Director Tom Homan furious.
President Trump tweeted, “Such a total miscarriage of Justice in San Francisco!”
Homan was equally outraged.
“I sat there stunned for a good 15-20 minutes. It sickened me. This isn’t the America I grew up in. For a city to knowingly release a public safety threat back into the public is just ridiculous. […]
“They want to fund sanctuary cities to keep illegal aliens in, but they don’t want to fund the border wall to keep them out. To me, that’s backwards,” the Independent Journal Review (IJR) quoted Homan as saying.
Another angered American was Indiana Rep. Todd Rokita, a newcomer to Congress. But he directed his anger in a more productive direction: at his fellow politicians.
On December 4, Rokita put forward a bill called ‘Stopping Lawless Actions of Politicians Act’ (SLAP) that will levy a “massive $1 million fine and up to five years in prison” if a lawmaker is found guilty of refusing to enforce laws on the books.
“Politicians don’t get to pick and choose what laws to comply with. Americans are dying because politicians sworn to uphold the law refuse to do so.
“It’s time the federal government gets serious about enforcing immigration laws and holding politicians accountable who conspire to break them,” he is quoted by IJR as saying.
