Apparently, political sport is a category that can be covered by yet another Establishment periodical.
The sports news site’s website describes the award as such:
“To honor Muhammad Ali, whose lifetime of achievement forever changed the world, SI is renaming its Legacy Award the Sports Illustrated Muhammad Ali Legacy Award. The honor will celebrate individuals whose dedication to the ideals of sportsmanship has spanned decades and whose career in athletics has directly or indirectly impacted the world.”
In its article explaining why Kaepernick was being awarded the honor, sports writer Michael Rosenberg states while “[p]revious Legacy winners—including Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jim Brown, Jack Nicklaus and Magic Johnson—were deserving…no winner has been more fitting than Kaepernick.”
What has he done? Besides angering the American people, insulting our police officers, disrespecting our flag and bleeding the NFL of fans and revenue, what lasting social impact has he had?
The furor over Trump is being carried out by left-wing anarchists and racial supremacists who have never shouted, “For Kaepernick!” but are more likely to sing a paean to Soros’ funding called, ‘Thanks, Uncle George’.
Former presidential candidate and one-time Governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee sent out a bemused tweet about SI’s decision.
“New name for old magazine- @SInow will become “Sports ELIMINATED.” Kaepernick gets Ali award. Heck, I’ve played in as many NFL games this year as he has, but then he’s done a lot to destroy @NFL so makes sense.”
Executive Editor of SI, Steve Cannella, says that he does not expect a severe backlash in regards to the choice, but due to what he calls the “modern political landscape we are in”, he does think there will be some complaints.
That political landscape we are in exists because the Left has politicized everything in order to corrupt and control it.
Game. Set. Match.
